12-Tone

12-tone technique (dodecaphony, twelve-tone serialism) is a form of musical composition popularized by Arnold Schoenberg in the early 1920’s. The form is composed by starting with a tone row or set, where all 12 tones of the chromatic scale are played in a non-repetitive order. The purpose is to avoid emphasis of one specific note or key.

1/2 tone is based on Schoenberg’s popularization, but is not based on a row or set of notes in any order. any tone can be repeated any amount of times—allowing for a sense of being in a specific key—but all 12 tones must be used. Yes, this was simply me misunderstanding how 12-tone rows work and making something new instead.

So then what is 1/2 tone?..
